Deer Country Quilts July Newsletter

  July 2016

Twenty years ago on the 4th of July Penny Copps had a float in the parade to advertise the opening of Deer Country Quilts the next day.  Penny and her sister-in-law Jean opened the shop together.  Jean ran the shop at first as Penny was still working at AT&T at the time.  Later that fall, Jean moved to Seattle to work as a counselor and Penny retired from her job and worked full time in the shop.  I started working shortly afterwards.  I taught classes for fabric as I recall! We started out in the Lazy Pine Mall then moved to the Bison and Bear Center.  In 2002 Penny asked me if I would like to become a partner in the shop.  We built the log building that summer and moved in right after Thanksgiving of that year.  Penny retired in 2006.  I never thought I would be a business owner but here I am 10 years later!  Penny was a great mentor and I know I could not have survived without the help of everyone who has worked here over the years! I am truly humbled and extremely grateful for getting to work with such a wonderful group of ladies that I call friends! There are many of you that along the way I have blessed to call friends also. There has been no better place to work!  So Happy Birthday Deer Country Quilts! Happy Birthday America!
Happy Quilting, Pam
