Happy February! February is National Embroidery Month. My earliest memory of hand work was doing up lace up cards with shoe strings as a young child. I remember learning to embroider in about 4th grade. My grandma used to crochet around the edges of the pillowcases and also around hand towels and my sisters and I would pick iron on stamps to embroider. My 1st project was on a pillowcase cuff which I still have today. From there I graduated to several Brucilla crewel embroidery kits. They are quite vintage now! My love for hand work has come full circle as I prefer it now even over piecing. If you are looking for an embroidery project to do this is a good month to do so. Crabapple Hill has a stitch along that you can follow with on FaceBook (you can get the free pattern on her web page). There are many designers to follow on FaceBook, Pinterest and Instagram for more inspiration. With the internet you can find a tutorial for any embroidery stitch you can think of. Of course we are always happy to share what we know about hand stitching also. Happy Quilting, Pam

Valentine's Day Tea Friday the 14th We would like to invite you for tea, coffee, treats and a special project on Valentine's Day! Also, for a bit of extra love, pick out a Valentine at the counter to see what discount you can have off of your sale. Our Valentines will have anywhere from 15% - 30% off that is good on regular priced fabric, books, notions, and patterns! Come in anytime during the day to work on the project. It takes 2 hours at the most.
A bit of history: The word ‘Quilling’ also known as ‘Paper Filigree’ is a form of paper art, where thin strips of paper are rolled & shaped to form beautiful and intricate designs. Quilling is certainly documented from the 1200s, but it really came into its own in the 1500s and 1600s, when French and Italian nuns used the torn edges from guilt-edged bibles and goose feathers to quill and decorate religious articles and pictures. The use of goose feathers gave rise to the term quilling.
I have seen rolled strips of wool used in various types of projects so we came up with a project using wool strips that we have. Our Valentine's project is a heart mug rug made with quilled wool strips. No sewing is required! We will provide kits for $5.00. You will also need glue. Aleene's Tacky Glue ($2.39) works perfectly. Show your favorite mug some love on Valentine's Day!!!
